The Wisconsin Dairy Products Association, Middleton, Wis., said Friday, July 19 is the entry deadline for the 2019 World Dairy Expo Championship Dairy Product Contest. Last year’s contest saw 1,500 entries from companies in North America and Europe. This year’s contest promises to be even bigger, with 86 product classes. The World Dairy Expo Championship Dairy Product Contest is the fastest-growing contest in the history of all dairy product contests, the Wisconsin Dairy Products Association said.

A company may submit as many entries as it wishes. Once a company has submitted its entry forms and fees, it then must ship its contest product entries during the week of August 12-16, 2019, the association said.

All cheese, butter, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, sour cream based-dips, buttermilk, whipping cream and fluid milk entries must be shipped to the Midwest Refrigerated Services in McFarland, Wis., while ice cream, sherbet, dried whey products and creative/innovative technology entries must be shipped to Madison College.

Judging will take place on the following dates:

  • Aug. 20: cheese and butter.
  • Aug. 21: yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream, fluid milk, buttermilk, sour cream-based dips and whipping cream.
  • Aug. 22: ice cream, sherbet, whey products and creative/innovative technologies.

After judging is concluded, all winners will be notified. The winning entries will then be auctioned off on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis. A portion of the auction proceeds will be used to fund the scholarships, which will be awarded to students pursuing careers in the dairy industry, the Wisconsin Dairy Products Association said.
