3. The 2023 Dairy 100: DFA takes top Dairy 100 spot

It placed third in the 2021 Dairy 100. It placed second in the 2022 Dairy 100. This year it is No. 1. Kansas City, Kan.-based Dairy Farmers of America Inc. (DFA) took over the top spot on the 2023 Dairy 100 — based upon 2022 or a company’s latest fiscal-year revenues — with Land O’Lakes Inc. placing second and Saputo placing third as it has done for the past two years.

4. Dairy Farmers of America withdraws IDFA membership

Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) has withdrawn its membership from the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) following the latter's petition to modify the Federal Milk Marketing Order.

5. Dairy Farmers of America reports 2022 net income of $108M

Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) reported its financial results for the 12-month period ending Dec. 31, 2022. The cooperative reported a net income of $107.9 million. DFA’s net sales totaled $24.5 billion for 2022, compared to $19.3 billion in 2021, a year over year (YoY) increase of $5.2 billion or 26.8%. The increase is a result of higher U.S. milk prices and higher overall product prices. The average price paid to DFA farmer-owners was $25.53 per hundredweight in 2022, compared to $18.37 in 2021.

6. Cheese Processor Invests $200M to expand plant and product capacity

Litchfield, Minn.-based First District Association’s (FDA) $200 million investment in new processing plants, equipment, and state-of-the-art automated technology was unveiled during a Sept. 18, 2021, ribbon-cutting ceremony that also celebrated the co-op’s milestone 100th anniversary.

10. The a2 Milk Co. receives Certified Regenerative Status

Nonprofit certifier A Greener World announced The a2 Milk Co.’s Grassfed a2 Milk Whole Milk and Grassfed a2 Milk 2% Reduced Fat Milk are Certified Regenerative by AGW. This certification provides a whole-farm assurance of regeneration and sustainability, measuring benefits for soil, water, air, biodiversity, infrastructure, animal welfare and social responsibility.
