Florida Food Products (FFP), Eustis, Fla., said it will acquire Comax Manufacturing Corp., a Melville, N.Y.-based provider of clean-label flavor solutions focused on the beverage and nutrition markets.
It is life in the fast lane for dairy ingredient developers, as the suppliers rush to meet the breakneck shopper demand for wellness-oriented products.
The road to health and wellness is getting more congested. With a rapidly expanding base of consumers seeking and embracing dairy products with better-for-you attributes, processors are leveraging the ingredients that will drive traffic.
The lines of what constitutes a clean-label product are murky. Does it mean a product is "free-from" unwanted components such as GMOs or artificial ingredients? That it has a short ingredient list? Or does it just mean the product is considered "healthy"?

Kerry, Naas, Ireland, said it expanded its clean-label food protection capabilities through the acquisition of two innovative companies, IsoAge Technologies and Biosecur Lab Inc.
Surprise bites of chocolate chips, cookie dough, pie pieces and other miniature treats have long delighted ice cream and frozen dessert consumers.
