The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA), Madison, Wis., said it is inviting industry professionals to nominate their peers to be considered for formal recognition by WCMA in 2022 for their outstanding contributions to the dairy processing industry.
The Dairy Pride Act would stop the use of dairy terms such as milk, yogurt and cheese on the labels of nondairy products made from nuts, seeds, plants and algae.

Reps. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) and Mike Simpson (R-Idaho), and Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) and Jim Risch (R-Idaho) re-introduced bipartisan legislation that requires the FDA to take enforcement action against manufacturers labeling nondairy products as dairy, according to representatives of Welch and Simpson.
The association also announced new board members for the 2021-2022 term.

The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA) said Steve Bechel of Eau Galle Cheese Factory in Durand, Wis., will serve as president of its board of directors in the 2021-2022 term, which begins July 1.
The auction will be held on April 7 as part of the Chr. Hansen Spotlight Event at CheeseExpo Global Online.

The dairy industry has been facing a variety of challenges this year, most notably, the COVID-19 pandemic. Dairy Foods asked the top executives of leading dairy associations to discuss the industry's more significant issues, as well as its greatest opportunities.
