Skyland Foods, Washington, D.C., has created IBEX, drinkable yogurts that boasts functional health benefits, nutrition and taste, all packaged in a dramatic black bottle.
According to the company, the IBEX brand is named for a mountain-going animal known for its dramatic horns and remarkable leaping ability. Some ancient legends say the animal possessed medicinal and curative properties. This is the basis for its brand story about functional, nutritional products, said Brandon Partridge, CEO of Skyland. “We try to depict IBEX in a way that embodies qualities that we all aspire to in our daily lives; hence our tagline, "Unleash your inner-IBEX!”
IBEX drinkable yogurts come in four flavors, three with specific targeted nutrition goals: brain health, digestive health and body recovery.
IBEX Pure & Simple — includes milk, cultures and sugar. It contains 130 calories, 3.5 grams of fat and 8 grams of protein per bottle.
IBEX Brain Boost with DHA — DHA is an important brain nutrient, supports brain function and cognitive development. It contains 140 calories, 3.5 grams of fat and 8 grams of protein per bottle.
IBEX Probiotic — it contains live and active cultures (including Lactobacillus Acidophilus), is a good source of fiber, with a ginger flavor. It contains 140 calories, 3.5 grams of fat and 8 grams of protein per bottle.
IBEX Recovery — a blend of protein, carbohydrates and nutrients that help the body recover. It contains 140 calories, 3.5 grams of fat and 8 grams of protein per bottle.
Partridge said the black packaging was designed to grab attention in the dairy case. It was also intended to attract a young, more adventurous consumer, he said. “The agricultural theme (cows, barns, old-fashioned milk trucks) dominate the branding architecture of the dairy case, and we feel that we can bring a different design aesthetic that stands out,” he continued.
According to Partridge, the company is working on other yogurt formulas, and hopes to expand the consumers perception of the health benefits dairy can offer.
