Ice cream and novelty sales are up slightly, while ice pop novelty sales jump ahead of the rest.

Some butter manufacturers note an increase in sales, while others are adding to inventory levels. Unsteady pricing has some manufacturers concerned, reports the USDA’s Dairy Market News.

In the refrigerated juice category, orange juice takes a hit. There are a few bright segments, namely veggie juice cocktails, juice and drink smoothies, and lemonade.

Butter prices dropped 13 cents this week but cream cheese rose 23 cents. Prices of Greek yogurt are little changed in a year.

Heavy seasonal milk supplies continue to support full cheese production schedules. Cheddar and provolone sales are good while mozzarella has slowed. 

Americans have cut back on their purchases of yogurt, cream cheese, sour cream and cottage cheese. The only bright spot in the category is refrigerated dips. Unit sales of dairy and nondairy dips rose 3.8%.

U.S. retailers are promoting butter, cottage cheese and milk this week, according to USDA's Dairy Market News.

New yogurt products from Chobani, Dannon and General Mills (Yoplait) were among the 10 best new products to hit retail shelves in 2014, according to IRI.

Unit sales are up slightly for the natural cheese category, but sales of processed cheese continue to decline.
