The newly launched Michigan Cheese and Dairy Guild is dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich tradition of dairy production in the region.

The Guild was co-founded by Zingerman’s Creamery’s Arend Elston, Leelanau Cheese’s Josh Hall, Tina Zinn from The Cheese Lady and Monger’s Provisions’ Zach Berg. Additional members include award-winning cheesemakers such as Idyll Farms, which just won high honors at the 2023 World Cheese Awards in Norway, alongside Leelanau Cheese Co.

“Our goal is to build and galvanize Michigan’s cheese community to better showcase our high-quality products on a national and international level,” said founding member Josh Hall of Leelanau Cheese. “What Michigan Beer Guild did for microbreweries, we hope to do for independent cheese and dairy producers.”

The recent recognition of two Michigan cheesemakers on an international stage is a major testament to the state’s cheesemaking abilities. By coalescing this talent and bringing together Michigan’s independent cheese and dairy producers for the first time, the new Michigan Cheese and Dairy Guild hopes to provide unprecedented support to further promote the state’s industry. The Guild provides community-led fundraising and education to its members, which currently includes a collection of cheesemakers, farmers, retailers, restaurateurs and food enthusiasts.

The Michigan Cheese and Dairy Guild is dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich tradition of dairy production in the state of Michigan.
