Arla Foods Ingredients launched a new drive to raise awareness of the ways in which whey protein ingredients can enable dairy companies to maximize output, increase profits and significantly cut waste. The campaign — called Maximum Yield — will highlight how simply adding whey protein to an existing production process with only small or no processing adjustments can significantly increase a dairy’s efficiency and boost its sustainability credentials at a stroke.

The campaign is focusing on two fronts — the elimination of unwanted by-products, and the use of by-products as a raw material — underlining that there is an approach available to suit every dairy, whatever their circumstances. Watson Inc. introduced a line of Edible Glitter products to meet the growing demand for clean labeling for what is considered “natural” colors. Edible Glitter Nature Colors is made from gum arabic (the sap of the Acacia tree) and color. Watson uses colors from a wide range of sources, including cabbage juice, algae, carrots, radish, turmeric and annatto.

3M Food Safety launched its 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 - E. coli 0157 (including H7), adding to a line of accelerated next-generation tests for the most pervasive food borne pathogens.

Ampac won an Alufoil trophy for its EZY Pro 10, a protein drink concentrate in a shaped stand-up pouch. It won in the Consumer Convenience category. The Alufoil Trophy, sponsored by the European Aluminum Foil Association, is a global award competition open to companies that make products “which are either made from aluminum foil or contain aluminum foil as part of a laminate, structure or packaging system.”

Symrise opened Symrise Parsian, its own site in Tehran, Iran in April. The move strengthens the company’s presence in the Middle East. The company set up sales offices and application-specific laboratories at the site.

North American processors of cheese, meats and poultry will be able to purchase both Weber and Textor brand slicers exclusively through one sales channel, headquartered in Kansas City, Mo. Technical support, parts supply and machine service has and will continue to be delivered from the North American Technology Center, headquarters of Weber Inc.

Admix expanded its customer base in Europe with the acquisition of In-Mix Flow Technology, a Danish mixing equipment company.

Alltech acquired Keenan, a farming solutions company in Ireland. Keenan, now part of the Alltech family of companies, is the 14th acquisition for Alltech globally since 2011.

Brookfield AMETEK released its new 2016 full-color catalog with complete details on all product lines. The 2016 catalog announced the acquisition of Brookfield Engineering Laboratories by AMETEK Inc.

Cimcorp, a manufacturer and integrator of turnkey robotic gantry-based order fulfillment and tire handling solutions, opened its new U.S.-based office Cimcorp USA Inc. in Norcross, Ga. Cimcorp also celebrated the opening of Sazerac’s revolutionary distribution center, the Glenmore Distillery, which contains its state-of-the-art layer picking system. Sazerac, the largest distilling company in the United States, invested $45 million for the 223,000 square-foot distribution center, which is just part of their $71 million total investment in the state of Kentucky.

The Glenmore Distillery will also use Westfalia’s automated storage and retrieval system and Savanna.NET warehouse execution system, to more efficiently store, retrieve and manage pallets of finished goods.

Double H Plastics achieved SQF Level 3 Certification for its Warminster facility for the fourth consecutive year.

Tetra Pak acquired Laude, a market leader in the design, development and manufacturer of plastic moulds used in hard and semi-hard cheese production. The acquisition will strengthen the company’s position as a provider of complete solutions for cheese manufacturing and will extend the availability of Laude products in the global market.

For a second consecutive year, food technology company Aseptia was named an award winner at the internationally renowned Edison Awards, achieving silver. Synerlink acquired Dairy Pack, which designs and manufactures Form-Fill-Seal and Fill-Seal machines and provides services to dairy companies from its manufacturing plant in Logroño, Spain. DairyPack operates in more than 20 countries around the world, both for large global dairy customers and for smaller local producers. This addition fits well with the rest of the Synerlink brands like Arcil, Dinieper, Aprium and Dosil.
