Dairy supplier news from Cargill, Wild Flavors and more

    October 31, 2013

Cargill’s cocoa and chocolate business created three tools in its portfolio of Price Risk Services to help customers more easily manage price risk. CocoaPacer, CocoaPacer Cap and CocoaRange Cap are designed to help protect customers from volatility when pricing their cocoa ingredients.

Separately, Cargill said its development program with Evolva Holding for fermentation-based steviol glycosides is moving into pilot scale ahead of schedule. Fermentation-derived steviol glycosides will enable cost-effective, commercially relevant sweetening solutions that include the best-tasting minor steviol glycosides, Cargill said.

The Dannon Co., White Plains, N.Y., and Danone Inc. (Canada) named Chr. Hansen, Milwaukee, Wis., their Supplier of the Year in the category of Best in Quality. Suppliers were assessed on a number of criteria, including improvements in environmental sustainability, quality and safety, improvements in cost, accelerating time to market of new or renovated products, boosts to innovation, protection of competitive advantage, and the demonstration of shared values in the relationship with Dannon and Danone.

Tippmann Group said its Interstate Warehousing location in Murfreesboro, Tenn., achieved a level 2 Safe Quality Foods certification from the Food Marketing Institute.

Naturex, a supplier of specialty plant-based natural ingredients, and University of Avignon (France) created a joint research laboratory to explore eco-friendly extraction processes. The process of eco-friendly extraction incorporates sustainability in all critical steps, including choice of the solvent, use of by-products and limitation of chemical alteration of botanical extracts.

Wild Flavors GmbH, Zug, Switzerland, created a Global Flavor Council to consolidate and leverage the knowledge and expertise of worldwide employees to allow for a deeper focus on flavors. Chief Global Flavorist Marie Wright will lead the council.

Roha Group launched its global reorganization initiative at the 2013 IFT show in Chicago. The Mumbai, India-based color supplier (with an office in St. Louis), unveiled a new corporate identity and six division logos. The Food Additives & Ingredients divisions include Idacol synthetic colors; Natracol colors from nature; and new Futurals colors from foodstuffs, extracts, flowers, herbs and algae.
