DSM combines health and indulgence at IFT 2013

DSM will be at booth 2439 for IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo, Chicago, July 13-16 2013

    June 8, 2013

    By DSM

DSM will be showcasing its complete line of food and nutritional solutions at the Institute of Food Technologist Annual Meeting & Food Expo 2013 (Chicago, July 13-16). DSM representatives are there to meet food manufacturers looking to make an impact with exciting new healthful and indulgence products. Furthermore, the company will present solutions to save costs, gain control and ensure responsible food delivery to ultimately improve efficiencies in the supply chain.

Thanks to the recently combined capabilities of DSM and Fortitech, DSM will be promoting its new leadership position in custom nutrient premixes, in conjunction with Fortitech in booth 1519. This means customers now have expanded access to ingredients, enhanced capabilities, the latest consumer insights, unsurpassed technical knowledge and best-in-class quality. Visitors will also be able to learn about the versatile culture and enzyme solutions available to enhance taste and texture as well as improve yield. Following the acquisition of Cargill’s cultures and enzymes business at the end of 2012, DSM is now a top tier provider of dairy ingredients.

DSM Food Specialties’ salt reduction toolbox enables manufacturers to deliver authentic home-style tastes with a natural label declaration, while meeting the increasing consumer demand for up to 50% less salt in snacks and ready meals. As well as novel yeast extracts, natural flavor ingredients can be used to replace conventional process flavors, without compromising on cost efficiency. Some of these are up to four times more concentrated than alternatives on the market, therefore reducing the amount required to achieve the same effect.

Reducing salt is one way of improving heart health. DSM Nutritional Products will be on hand to discuss innovative nutritional ingredients to “guard your heart”, such as Fruitflow, a natural tomato concentrate which helps support healthy circulation, and OatWell, an oat beta-glucan with clinically proven health benefits in cholesterol reduction. DSM also has the industry’s broadest spectrum of omega-3 solutions to meet the needs of nearly every food and beverage application. The leader in Nutritional Lipids solutions, DSM now offers two sources with two solutions; life’sDHA – a vegetarian, algal source of DHA omega-3 and MEG-3 - the most trusted omega-3 fish source. DSM’s extensive omega-3 capabilities provide proven brain, eye and heart health benefits for consumer products through all life stages.

Combining health and indulgence is a tough challenge for any food manufacturer. DSM Food Specialties has a scientifically proven solution to reduce the levels of acrylamide formed in baked goods, tortillas, snacks and cookies by as much as 90%. More importantly, this is achievable without affecting the anticipated taste, appearance or nutritional properties. DSM experts will also be on stand to discuss how to optimize shelf life and yield using natural anti-fungal ingredients for beverages, dairy and meat applications among others.

DSM Nutritional Products will additionally showcase its range of color solutions, satisfying health-conscious consumers with natural-sourced and nature-identical carotenoid colors for many food and beverage applications.
