    DSM features OatWell Oat Beta-Glucan at IFT Show

    DSM Nutritional Products featured OatWell, the market-leading ingredient brand of oat beta-glucan, at the Institute of Food Technologist (IFT) Annual Meeting & Food Expo this week in Chicago. OatWell is sold around the world to food and beverage manufacturers and dietary supplement producers who wish to add the health benefits of oat beta-glucan to their products.

    OatWell is the market-leading ingredient brand of oat beta-glucan. Oat beta-glucan has clinically proven health benefits in the areas of cholesterol reduction, blood glucose control and gastrointestinal health. EFSA (Article 14.0) and the FDA (21 CFR 101.81) are amongst the major health authorities who have approved Health Claims for oat beta-glucans for cholesterol reduction and the associated risk of developing heart disease. OatWell has been shown in numerous clinical studies showing efficacy for cholesterol reduction, blood glucose control, and gastrointestinal health.

    OatWell is unique in that the careful milling and sieving process of oats protects the three key parameters needed for oat beta-glucan clinical efficacy: concentration, solubility and molecular weight – all necessary to ensure adequate viscosity in the gut. Oat beta-glucan works by forming a viscous gel within the lower intestine, thereby lowering blood cholesterol levels. An all-natural soluble fiber harvested from pure Swedish oats, OatWell oat beta-glucan contributes to a clean label for finished products. OatWell has a neutral taste profile, long shelf life, and can be used in a number of applications, including nutritional bars, cereal, pasta, smoothies, RTD beverages, dairy products and powdered mixes.

    DSM sampled OATally Healthy bars, a berry cereal bar with a vanilla yogurt coated bottom at this week's IFT show. The bar contains 0.75 gram of beta-glucan and is positioned for cholesterol reduction. Cholesterol levels can be reduced by intake of 3 grams of oat beta-glucan per day. Also on display was European Supermarket Migros store brand, Blévita crackers containing 1 gram of beta-glucan per serving.
