Amcor polypropylene beverage cups qualify as “Widely Recyclable”

Amcor announced that its polypropylene (PP) beverage cups manufactured for foodservice and retail customers now qualify as “Widely Recyclable” according to How2Recycle, following new data showing more than 60% of U.S. households have access to PP recycling through curbside or drop-off programs.
This milestone reflects years of industry collaboration to align packaging design, recycling infrastructure, end markets and consumer guidance. With expanded access reaching millions of additional households, including two million in the past four months according to the Polypropylene Recycling Coalition, Amcor’s PP cups carry widely recognized recyclability labeling that supports customers, consumers and circularity goals.
“At Amcor, we believe all packaging can be circular and that packaging waste can be eliminated. The ‘Widely Recyclable’ designation will help consumers understand how to recycle these cups and increase the supply of recyclable material for new packaging,” said Diane Marret, senior director of sustainability for Amcor Rigid Packaging Solutions North America.
Marret added: “This milestone represents years of collaboration across the value chain to strengthen recycling infrastructure, end markets and consumer guidance. It’s a community-by-community approach that can serve as a model for other packaging formats, too. We look forward to continuing our work with customers and other partners to expand circular solutions.”
Amcor’s PP cup portfolio supports foodservice customers across the U.S. with clear or opaque cups that provide strong visual branding and patented Bantam technology designed to reduce weight and improve rigidity. The company also offers multiple lidding options that enable a single-substrate package.
