Amy DeLisio

Amy DeLisio, CEO of the Dairy Council of California, joins us for Episode 39 of the “Let’s Talk Dairy” podcast to discuss animal-free dairy.

DeLisio, MPH, RDN, brings a wealth of executive and professional expertise to the position. She previously served as the executive director for the Center for Wellness and Nutrition, Public Health Institute. Three years prior to that, DeLisio was a program director for the Public Health Institute. She also has written several articles for Dairy Foods.

During this podcast, DeLisio discusses the following:

  • In recent years, there has been a rise in the availability and interest in plant-based alternatives to dairy milk. But some consumers choose these beverages due to their perceived healthfulness. What is the truth and science about health benefits of dairy milk versus plant-based alternatives?
  • The animal-free products versus dairy foods debate has also entered the schools and we are seeing the adoption of more plant-based foods in the school environment. Why are dairy foods important for young people specifically?
  • The other area that dairy foods can often be misunderstood — especially when compared to animal-free alternatives — is fat content. Should people be concerned about the fat content in dairy foods?
  • Consumers often choose plant-based alternatives due to perceptions around sustainability. Do dairy foods fit in sustainable food systems?
  • There is evidence about the benefits of dairy in the diet, yet so many people are unclear about the research. What can the dairy industry do to educate  others about the important health benefits of dairy foods?
  • Animal-free advocates are making their voices heard on Capitol Hill. What is Dairy Council of California doing to help educate policymakers about the nutritional goodness of dairy products?
