    Thor’s Skyr debuts lactose-free formula

New flavors Coconut, Key Lime and Coffee contain more protein, no added sugar.

Thor’s Skyr debuted a new lactose-free Skyr formula made with all natural ingredients, more protein per serving and no added sugar at Natural Products Expo East in Philadelphia.

Thor’s Skyr lactose-free formula enables dairy and non-dairy consumers alike to receive the protein-packed benefits of skyr made from cow’s milk, while also making it easier to digest, maintaining lower blood sugar levels, the Portland, Maine-based company says.

Available in three new fall flavors, Coconut, Key Lime and Coffee, the lactose-free formula is now part of the brand’s seven flavors, including Vanilla, Strawberry and Blueberry. The formula also is naturally sweeter, removing the need for added sugar in their flavored offerings.

According to Data Bridge Research, the U.S. lactose-free market is currently valued at $12.6 billion and, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.45%, is expected to reach $32.2 billion by 2029.

Thor’s Skyr’s new recipe results in a higher protein content. For example, the fan-favorite plain Thor’s Skyr now has 21 grams of protein per 6-ounce cup, while the flavored offerings contain 18 grams of protein.

“We know consumers are looking for more protein and less sugar, so we are excited to be able to launch our new formula that will help introduce skyr to a wider demographic,” says Unnar Beck Daníelsson, CEO of Thor’s Skyr. “Not only does the skyr taste delicious and refreshing, but it allows people with lactose intolerances and stomach sensitivities to enjoy the product as much as anyone else. We are committed to educating consumers on the benefits of skyr and look forward to continuing to bring healthy yet flavorful options to our customers so they can be confident that Thor’s Skyr is the right choice.”

Now available in over 1,600 stores nationwide, including Giant and Stop & Shop, Thor’s Skyr is in refrigerated coolers for a suggested retail price of $2.29 for a 6-ounce carton.
