Emeryville, Calif.-based SCS Consulting Services says it launched a food safety consultancy to support corporations in navigating the international food safety regulatory landscape, as well as the ever-growing body of industry- and consumer-based food and food safety certification programs. A subsidiary of SCS Global Services, SCS Consulting Services added food safety to its expanding list of sustainability consulting services, which include benchmarking, establishing, tracking and reporting on environmental, social and governance priorities, as well as implementing sustainable and climate-friendly solutions throughout operations and supply chains.

According to SCS Consulting Services, the food safety consultancy is built on a team of food industry experts with more than 30 years of food safety and quality experience, as well as expertise in working within all sectors in the food industry — from primary producers to retailers. It will offer a wide range of services spanning regulatory requirements, including Food Safety Modernization Act compliance, supply chain management, crisis response support and food defense.

The SCS food safety consulting team is well-versed in Global Food Safety Initiative schemes, Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Agricultural Practices, as well as HACCP analysis and planning. The team’s expertise reaches deep into diverse food sectors, including but not limited to outdoor and indoor plant production, food and beverage manufacturing, dietary supplements, cannabis and distribution and retail. Another major focus of the new consultancy is multi-tiered food safety training services geared towards all levels of organizational need, SCS Consulting Services says.

“In developing this new food safety consulting team, we wanted to provide companies not only with the support and expertise needed to guide them successfully through all of the myriad food safety and quality certifications and regulatory requirements, but also to empower their own internal teams —through expert training and insights — to help them implement exceptional food safety management systems and corporate best practices,” said Jenny Oorbeck, executive director of SCS Consulting Services.
