Lifeway debuts kefir shots, organic grass-fed kefir

The offerings respond to growing consumer interest in functional foods.

    February 24, 2021

Morton Grove, Ill.-based Lifeway Foods Inc. added two new lines to its collection of kefir products: 3.5-ounce functional shot multipacks and organic grass-fed kefir. As extensions of Lifeway’s kefir portfolio, these new items support Lifeway’s ongoing mission to support overall health from the inside out, the company said.

According to Lifeway, today’s consumers are increasingly interested in functional foods, specifically those with ingredients that support immunity and improve overall health and wellness. Each Lifeway product is made with 12 active cultures packed with protein, calcium, vitamin D and probiotics, which research suggests may help to support immunity and the microbiome.

“Our 3.5-ounce functional shots offer the benefits of kefir in a smaller size, making them perfect for those who want a quick snack after a workout or in between meetings,” said Lifeway Foods CEO, Julie Smolyansky. “Our organic grass-fed line is a special kefir that’s fit for the occasions when you’ve got time to treat yourself to the premium, creamy texture of whole milk and some of our favorite flavors, plus we’ve added prebiotic fiber for probiotic/symbiotic benefits.”

Lifeway said the functional shots are available in four flavors: Mango, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana and Mixed Berry. Each bottle contains 60 calories, 4 grams of protein and 1 gram of fat. The offerings are lactose-intolerance friendly and naturally gluten-free.

The organic grass-fed kefir contains added prebiotic fiber for a synbiotic boost. The line is available in 32-ounce bottles in Plain, Vanilla, Strawberry and Mango flavors. Each bottle contains 8 grams of protein, 8 grams of fat and 160-190 calories per serving and also is lactose intolerance friendly and naturally gluten-free.
