World Milk Day will take place on June 1. Twenty years ago, the event was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to recognize the importance of milk as a global food, as well as to celebrate the dairy sector. Each year since, the benefits of milk and dairy products have been actively promoted around the world, including how dairy supports the livelihoods of one billion people, according to the Rosemont, Ill.-based Global Dairy Platform.

This year, the Global Dairy Platform said it is hoping to break new records in terms of outreach, participation and promotion for the 20th anniversary of World Milk Day. In light of the global COVID-19 pandemic, it is encouraging organizers to host social media campaigns or online events to abide by the policies put in place by the World Health Organization and their local governments.

To help create a positive stream of conversation, the 2020 celebrations will start with the Enjoy Dairy Rally May 29-31, culminating with World Milk Day on Monday, June 1. This year’s overarching theme is the 20th Anniversary of World Milk Day. The Global Dairy Platform is encouraging participants to talk about the benefits of dairy in regard to health and nutrition, affordability and accessibility, as well as the sector’s passion and commitment to feeding communities.

Participants are invited to share their love for milk and dairy via social media channels using #WorldMilkDay and #EnjoyDairy. For more information, visit https://worldmilkday.org.
