After extensive testing, GEA Filtration has pioneered the state-of-the-art Reverse Osmosis Polishers (ROP) membranes to achieve significant energy savings. The newer polisher membranes allow operation at lower-feed pressures and can be installed in existing or new membrane ROP plants. GEA Filtration has experienced a 35% reduction in the operating pressures and a horsepower reduction of up to 30%. The membranes’ cost is similar to standard polisher membranes but, due to lower operational costs, the added savings results in considerable annual savings. Lower-energy consumption not only reduces operating cost, but it also is beneficial for the environment at the same time. The cost advantage on new plants is twofold: 1)capital costs are reduced by up to 10% due to
the need for fewer pumps to achieve the operating pressure and
2)overall power requirements are reduced.
