Saying that “butter is on a roll” may be a play on words, but it is definitely also the truth. Butter/butter blend sales today are incredibly smooth, jumping nearly 10% for the 52-week period ending May 18, with dollar sales reaching just slightly below $6 billion, according to Circana.
Although some may not consider its sales gains gangbusters, the butter and creamer dairy subcategories are led by refrigerated butters and refrigerated coffee creamers, according to Chicago-based market research firm Circana.
Butter and creamers might not land a starring role on the plate or in the bowl like their cheese and ice cream dairy cousins, but they are important and versatile supporting actors.
The company says the product introduction builds on its mission of ‘making good food for all.’

Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative Association Inc. (MDVA) lays claim to much more than a long name. The Reston, Va.-based dairy cooperative also boasts an impressively long history, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2020.
The cooperative also added heavy whipping cream and half & half.
