PROOF Hard Ice Cream’s plant is adjacent to its Columbia, S.C., corporate office, located in an industrial park in a building next door to a technical school.

The ready-to-drink (RTD) coffee and tea beverage categories experienced some hiccups in the past year. Results ranged from mixed to negative in all subcategories, according to data provided by Circana, a Chicago-based market research firm.

At first glance, one might not bat an eye about an industrial complex near a technical school in Columbia, the state capital of South Carolina. There is no large plant, nor large silos painted with cow-related colors.

Water ices and sorbets (a.k.a. “sorbetto” when presented for sale/consumption alongside gelato) can be considered sherbets without dairy ingredients. Water ices are compositions of water, sugar, corn syrup, and color/flavor. Sorbets are “upscale water ices” using fruit primarily as the source of solids.
