Greece-based Olympiana Creamery and Massachusetts based importer Extra Virgin Foods Inc. launched a Greek Sheep Butter in the United States.

Made from the cream of 100% grassfed sheep milk, from the mountainous Arcadia region in southern Greece. It offers 85% butterfat and is soft, smooth, and a mildly sweet flavor, the company states.

Sheep butter is lower in lactose, lower in saturated fat, higher in CLAs, creamier and higher in fat than conventional cows milk butter, even imported ones from Ireland or France, the company states.

The butter is made from slow vat pasteurized milk, and is churned in traditional wooden butter barrels. The finished butter is packaged the traditional way: hand cut, paper wrapped, and then vacuum wrapped.

This is the company’s first dairy item, as they usually sell into deli or the specialty cheese category and are actively looking for experienced dairy brokers and sales professionals to help market this new product.
