Ben & Jerry’s, Burlington, Vt., said it asked fans to vote for their favorite among six limited-edition flavors to help the company decide which one should make an encore. When all was said and done, Bob Marley’s One Love — a banana ice cream, with caramel and graham cracker swirls, and chocolatey peace signs — emerged as the winner, with 27% of the vote.

One Love will be available retail stores nationwide, at store.benjerry.com and at participating Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops for a limited time, the company said. A portion of the proceeds from each One Love pint sold will benefit Jamaica’s One Love Youth Camp, a program run by The Bob Marley Foundation and Partners for Youth Empowerment.

One Love first made its appearance in 2016 in the U.K., created in partnership with the Marley family, to pay homage to the legendary performer and his vision for a better world. One Love was such a big hit, a petition was started online by Ben & Jerry’s fans pleading the company to bring the flavor to the United States, Ben & Jerry’s said. The flavor was then launched in 2017 at the historic Roxy theater with Ziggy Marley playing the same venue his father had played decades before.

Fans chose One Love among the following six flavors. Here’s how the flavors ranked among fans:

  • One Love: 27% of votes
  • Peanut Butter Half Baked: 20% of votes
  • Phish It’s Ice ... Cream: 19% of votes
  • Chocolate Cherry Garcia: 14% of votes
  • Candy Bar Pie: 14% of votes
  • Nutty Caramel Swirl: 6% of votes

To come up with the list, Ben & Jerry’s asked each of the ice cream maker’s “flavor gurus” to choose his or her favorite previous limited-batch flavor to throw into the running.

“We’re really excited to see fans brought back a flavor that promotes youth empowerment and social change,” said Haylee Nelson, flavor guru. “Sometimes, we just need a little help when we can’t decide ourselves!”
