PerkinElmer Inc., Waltham, Mass., announced that its DairyGuard Milk Powder Analyzer received an Innovation Award from the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) at the 2014 IFT Food Expo in New Orleans in June.

The DairyGuard solution, an analyzer based on a near infrared (NIR) spectrometer specifically developed for food suppliers and manufacturers, is the only system available that tests for unknown adulterants, as well as nutritional parameters, such as protein, moisture and fat content, according to the company. Combined with fast sampling times that yield real-time results, DairyGuard provides heightened protection from supply chain risks to the safety and quality of milk powder.

The 2014 IFT Food Expo Innovation Awards program is designed to honor outstanding innovation in products, ingredients, applications, instruments, equipment, technology and services. A panel of 10 jurors from industry, academia and government with expertise in ingredients, product development, processing and packaging technology, and food safety selected the honorees.
