The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA), Madison, Wis., is calling for nominations of individuals to be considered for formal recognition in 2021 for their outstanding contributions to the dairy processing industry.
The award honors an exceptional leader who has made an outstanding contribution in business, demonstrating excellence in leadership, corporate performance, global competitiveness, innovation and social responsibility.

Saputo Inc., Montreal, announced Lino Saputo, Jr.’s achievement as Canada’s Outstanding CEO of the Year for 2019, a prestigious award for chief executives in Canada.
The C’s are customers, communications and cheese. The Exporter of the Year builds and maintains strong connections with customers throughout the world. The company accounts for at least 10% of all U.S. cheese exports.
This year’s recipient of the Tom Camerlo Exporter of the Year award from Dairy Foods stands out from the competition in one major way: fewer frequent flyer miles. At least, fewer miles traveled between its export markets and headquarters. After all, when you’ve already got personnel stationed in those markets, there’s no need to visit as often — your company already lives there.
Lyon was the driving force behind the creation of the Dairy Foods Research Centers in the 1980s.

The National Dairy Promotion and Research Board (NDB) honored G. Joe Lyon as the 2012 recipient of the Richard E. Lyng Award for his dedication and distinguished service to dairy promotion. Lyon, a dairy producer from Toledo, Iowa, was recognized at the Joint NDB/National Milk Producers Federation/United Dairy Industry Association (UDIA) Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla.
In recognition of the best merchandising efforts supporting the June Dairy Month/Ice Age: Continental Drift collaboration, NFRA awarded 24 Gold Penguin and 31 Silver Penguin awards. Gold-winning dairy processors are Sargento Foods, Plymouth, Wis., (for the Manufacturer Branded category) and Stremick’s Heritage Foods, Santa Ana, Calif., (Manufacturer Private Brand). Silver-award winners include HP Hood LLC, Hamburg, N.Y., and Kemps, LLC, Cedarburg, Wis., (Manufacturer Branded).
The Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research (CDR) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison received one of seven $1 million i6 Challenge grants from the U.S. Department of Commerce to support an effort to commercialize research ideas that will positively impact economic development.
Wisconsin contest honors Gifford’s: For the third year in a row, Gifford’s Dairy, Skowhegan, Maine, was selected the Ice Cream Grand Champion in the World Dairy Expo (WDE) Championship Dairy Product Contest.
