Wisconsin Cheese Group of Monroe, Wis., has been sold to a Pittsburgh-area private equity firm that plans to increase the business and eventually sell it to a larger food corporation. Main Street Capital Holdings, Canonsburg, Pa., is not disclosing terms of its purchase of Wisconsin Cheese Group, which specializes in dairy products for Hispanic markets.

Chicago Price Fix Case Dismissed

A district court judge in Illinois recently threw out a class-action lawsuit that accused the Chicago area’s two largest grocery chains, Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s Finer Foods, of conspiring to fix the price of milk. Meanwhile, Dominick’s parent company Safeway Inc., has recently announced a $ 1.1 billion loss in the fourth quarter, largely because of problems with its purchase of Dominick’s and of Randalls in Texas.

Schepps Promises

Schepps Dairy of Dallas has pledged a percentage of consumer purchases of its dairy products to fund college-savings programs through an exclusive partnership with Upromise Inc., a company that helps families save for college.

Marschall Seminar Scheduled

The 40th annual Marschall Cheese Seminar has been scheduled for September 17 and 18. The show will again be held at the Visalia Convention Center, Visalia, Calif., the fourth year it has been held in this central valley city.
