The scholarship was established in 2021 in honor of Tom Imbordino, a founding member of the FPSA Dairy Council and longtime publisher of Dairy Foods magazine. 

Rachel Visser, (pictured) a student at the University of Minnesota double majoring in Agricultural and Food Business Management and Agricultural Communications and Marketing, has been named the 2025–2026 James H. Loper Jr. Memorial Scholarship recipient.

Undergraduate students in their sophomore through senior year for the 2025-2026 academic school year and enrolled in college/university programs that emphasize dairy are eligible.

The Dr. Peter Vitaliano Legacy Scholarship will be used to help support a student who demonstrates attributes exemplified by Dr. Vitaliano to honor his longtime commitment to the success of U.S. dairy producers and cooperatives.

This annual scholarship, sponsored by PMMI member company Garvey Corp. and established in memory of Mark C. Garvey, honors students who exemplify leadership, academic excellence, and a dedication to advancing the packaging industry. Garvey’s passion for education and industry innovation continues to inspire future generations through this award.

Eleven scholarships worth $2,500 each will be awarded, in addition to a $3,500 James H. Loper Jr. Memorial Scholarship to one outstanding recipient. NDB funds, in part, Dairy Management Inc. (DMI), which manages the national dairy checkoff program.

Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to current students pursuing a degree in a four- or two-year program. Three $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors.

The National Dairy Promotion and Research Board (NDB), through Dairy Management Inc., which manages the national dairy checkoff, annually awards $2,500 scholarships to 11 students.

This year’s recipients include high school seniors Bethany Magdanz, Brooke Witcpalek and Macy Verhasselt and current college students Brooke Meinholz and Megan Salentine. 

Two scholarships will be awarded to students currently enrolled in college or university or a two-year technical, junior or community college. Three scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors.
