    Free-standing inserts

This week's FSIs include Ben & Jerry's, Heluva Good, J&J Snack and other dairy processors

    By James Carper
    June 26, 2012

As the temperatures heated up, so did the marketing activity by dairy processors in this week's free-standing inserts. Dairy marketers reminded shoppers to stock up on ice cream and dips for the upcoming July 4 holiday.

Unilever's Ben & Jerry's promoted its Strawberry Shortcake flavor of Greek frozen yogurt. "It's really Greekin' good!" stated a headline. The marketer offered a $1 coupon toward the purchase of two pints of frozen yogurt or ice cream.

Sorrento, a brand from Lactalis Retail Dairy, invites shoppers to "Make it a Sorrento Summer." Its all-natural cheese is called "the perfect way to make your summer meals shine." The FSI includes a website for recipes.

J&J Snack Foods showed an array of its frozen novelties, included a new Whole Fruit Smoothie SKU. Brands featured were Minute Maid juice bars, Whole Fruit fruit bars, Luigi's Italian ice, Dogsters and the smoothie SKU. The FSI included the company's website address and the Facebook logo.

HP Hood's Heluva Good! brand urged shoppers to "Break out the red, white, and bold" with its sour cream dips. Flavors shown were black bean queso, Buffalo wing and French onion.

Dean's featured its heat-and-eat dairy-based dips against a back drop of the Statue of Liberty (holding a chip) and under the headline "The Perfect Melting Pot."

Saputo showed its Treasure Cave brand blue cheese on a hamburger. The FSI states the brand is "America's #1 Blue cheese." Readers are directed online for "tasty salad recipes."

Dole markets its make-at-home Shakes fruit and yogurt smoothie kits, found in the frozen aisle.

Nondairy companies printed recipes calling for dairy ingredients.

    • A teriyaki pineapple turkey burger from Dole calls for eight slices of Cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese.
    • Hormel's Buffalo chicken dip requires 1/3 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup of buttermilk ranch dressing.
    • Unilever's Knorr's spinach and Greek yogurt dip calls for 16 ounces of nonfat plain Greek yogurt.
