    Lehigh Valley Dairy Farms, Landsdale, Pa., introduced a new white bottle that is said to protect the purity of milk by blocking light intake. The dairy processor, a brand of Dean Foods, is using the name Pure Protect for the opaque container.

    The Kroger Co. announced nationwide availability of its new Simple Truth and Simple Truth Organic brands. Dairy categories include milk and yogurt; other categories are salads, dried fruit, sodas, chips and quinoa.  Simple Truth and Simple Truth Organic products are free from 101 artificial preservatives and ingredients that some customers have said they do not want in their foods. Simple Truth Organic products are certified organic by the USDA.

    Nestlé has invested in a new production line at its factory in Jamaica which makes Supligen, a milk based drink enjoyed by consumers across the Caribbean. Supligen is a fortified nutritional meal supplement, marketed as a sustained energy release drink for Caribbean consumers since the late 1970s.

    Yoplait Greek yogurt saw 'strong sales gains' but overall sales for the Yoplait division declined.

Established brands, including Yoplait Greek yogurt, also contributed strong sales gains, according to the company's press release. The owner and creator of the 823-square-foot parlor is Lee Turner, a systems engineer by day and a dairy processor by night. The self-proclaimed ice cream enthusiast describes her treats as a cross between ice cream and gelato. The shop is located in Old Town Scottsdale in what Turner calls the “restaurant district.”

    Strong Class I demand in the East has reduced manufacturing milk supplies. Along with reduced milk production levels this has increased demand for milk and components from other parts of the country. Florida milk production is nearing seasonal lows and imports totaled 96 loads this week.
