In 2019, lactose-free milk sales grew twice as fast as sales of plant-based beverages, with lactose-free poised to surpass almond-beverage sales this year, according to the Arlington, Va.-based National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF), citing data from Chicago-based market research firm IRI.
The scientists requested that the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services consider lifting the limits placed on saturated fat intake for the upcoming 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines.

In a consensus statement, a group of established U.S. and international nutrition scientists, including three former members of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, requested the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services give serious and immediate consideration to lifting the limits placed on saturated fat intake for the upcoming 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
The group will spend time on Capitol Hill urging lawmakers to increase funding for the SNAP milk incentive program, continue important research and collaboration on ice cream food waste solutions, and more.

On Feb. 26, the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) said dairy industry leaders from across the country were in Washington, D.C., to urge congressional leaders and appropriators to fund important research, a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) milk incentive pilot program, and dairy standards modernization at the FDA in fiscal year (FY) 2021.
The cooperative’s chocolate milk was named official refuel partner for festival races.

Prairie Farms Dairy Inc., an Edwardsville, Ill.-based dairy cooperative, said it partnered with the Humana Kentucky Derby Festival MiniMarathon and Marathon to be the chocolate milk refueling partner for the race.
The association’s latest report says almost every US household buys from the dairy and frozen departments annually.

The National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA), Harrisburg, Pa., recently released the “NFRA 2019 State of the Industry Report,” which shows that today's dairy and frozen departments are clearly connecting with shoppers.
DFA agreed to pay a base purchase price of $425 million — as well as to assume various liabilities, subject to certain adjustments — to acquire 44 of Dean’s facilities and associated direct-store-delivery system, and certain corporate and other assets and functions.

Dairy Farmers of America Inc. (DFA) said an agreement has been reached with Dallas-based Dean Foods whereby the Kansas City, Kan.-based farmer-owned cooperative becomes the stalking horse bidder to acquire a “substantial portion” of Dean Foods’ assets and business.
