Hygiena was awarded Performance Tested Methods Validation from the AOAC Research Institute for MicroSnap Total, which detects aerobic bacteria in seven hours or less for same-shift test results. This test can be used with raw milk and dairy desserts.

Flavorseal’s facility and seasoning transfer products have been certified gluten-free from NSF International. Flavorseal is a provider of food packaging solutions.

Ingredion successfully completed its acquisition of Penford Corp., a U.S.-based leader in specialty ingredients for food applications. 

At the Research Chefs Association Culinology Expo in New Orleans in March, Penford Food Ingredients introduced the GumPlete system BV 111 that can be applied in instant beverage products. The system provides viscosity and suspension to instant beverages such as meal replacement drinks and smoothies.

Steviva Ingredients, a supplier of all-natural high-intensity sweeteners and custom sweetening solutions, rebranded two of its ingredients. Joining the existing Erysweet portfolio are Erysweet+ with stevia and Erysweet+ mesh fine powder, formerly marketed as Steviva Blend and Stevia Blend fine powder, respectively.

Frutarom Industries Ltd. acquired 100% of the share capital of the Belgian flavors company Taiga International NV.

The international Industria Macchine Automatiche S.p.A. (IMA Group), headquartered in Bologna, Italy, acquired the operating business of Oystar Group, a producer of packaging machines. The operating companies of Oystar Group – Benhil, Erca, Gasti, Hamba and Hassia – will be transferred into the newly founded holding company IMA Dairy and Food GmbH.

TIC Gums and Cornell University awarded its 2015 Ice Cream University winner. The winning ice cream, named Holy Cannoli, was the creation of Lauren Impallaria, Bel Air High School in Maryland; Gabrielle Ingoglia, Patterson Mill High School in Maryland; Madelyn Miller, Edgewood High School in Maryland; and Rebekah Paradis, Fallston High School in Maryland. In all, 16 local high school students with interests in science, culinary arts and marketing participated in this year’s event hosted by TIC Gums at its Texture Innovation Center in White Marsh, Md. The program is based on Cornell University’s Food Science 101 course which is required for incoming freshman of the College of Food Science.
