HP Hood Buys LeCarb Brand
May 11, 2004
Directly on the heals of its acquisition of a large chunk of National Dairy Holdings, HP Hood has acquired the trailblazing low-carbohydrate dairy brand LeCarb from Southwest Foods, Tyler, Texas. LeCarb, a line of frozen dessert, yogurt, and milk drinks was introduced in 2002 and 2003 by the captive dairy and food manufacturer which is owned by Brookshire Grocery Co., Tyler. Southwest was recognized in 2002 and in 2003 by Dairy Foods for the introduction of the LeCarb products. The company was Dairy Foods' 2003 New Product Company of the Year. Last fall, HP Hood introduced its own low carbohydrate milk drink line, Carb Countdown. Brookshire Grocery declined to comment on the sale of the brand to HP Hood.
