Lipid Nutrition and Tempo Canada Inc. have expanded their strategic partnership designed to mutually benefit both companies by better serving the dietary supplement and functional food markets in the United States. The companies say the expansion will allow the two companies to serve a broader customer base in the United States.

Greek dairy company Fage Dairy Industry, has named Ogilvy North America as its United States agency of record. Ogilvy says it was awarded Fage’s fully integrated marketing account based on the agency’s past success in building brands across multiple channels. Launched in the U.S. in 1998, Fage is planning a new marketing push behind its Total yogurt brand.
Fage has also chosen Westfalia Technologies (www.WestfaliaUSA.com) to supply an Automated Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS) for the warehouse portion of Fage’s new yogurt manufacturing plant in Johnstown, N.Y., due for completion later this year. The ASRS has been designed as a single-aisle satellite system, and will store 1,638 pallets of finished yogurt and cheese products.
Orafti Active Food Ingredients scooped up two prizes at the ‘Ingredient of the Year 2006’ ceremony at Ingredients Russia in December. Orafti received a gold award for its Beneo Synergy1 ingredient, and was recognized for the Orafti reports presented at the Ingredients Russia Forum.
Information Resources Inc. has formed a strategic analytics insights relationship with Dollar General, the Fortune 500 discount retailer that operates more than 8,000 stores. IRI will be leveraging its analytics and retail expertise to support Dollar General’s corporate initiatives of continued growth and productivity. Additionally, Dollar General will supply IRI its sales movement information, which will be provided to manufacturers on an approved project basis.
Nikken Foods Company LTD, Tokyo, one of the world’s largest suppliers of natural flavors is entering the U.S. market. The acquisition of the Nikken Foods division of Lilar Corp., has resulted in the incorporation of Nikken Foods USA, Inc.
Superior Manufacturing Group, Chicago, has purchased the Food Service Matting Division of Teknor Apex. With this acquisition, Superior Manufacturing Group now becomes an industry leading supplier of floor matting to the food service industry.
Rock-Tenn Co. has acquired the remaining minority interest in GSD Packaging LLC, for $32 million, giving Rock-Tenn sole ownership of the company. GSD manufactures the Fold-Pak food pails and Bio-Pak and SmartServ food containers.
Thiele Technologies Inc. and its parent organization, Barry-Wehmiller Companies, have announced Thiele’s acquisition of SWF Companies of Reedley, Calif., a long-established provider of automated packaging machinery, from Dover Corporation. The acquisition positions Thiele Technologies as one of the largest manufacturers of primary, secondary and robotic packaging solutions across a broad spectrum of industries.
Multivac Inc. has opened a Canadian subsidiary, in Woodbridge, Ontario, just north of Toronto. All of Multivac’s Canadian activity, previously coordinated through Multivac USA, will transfer to Multivac Canada beginning this month.
