The Dairy State has joined the fight against California’s milk pricing system.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is filing a friend of the court brief in support of the challenge to California’s system by dairy producers in Arizona and Nevada. There are now seven states making the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“The bottom line is, they are playing by a different set of rules than the rest of the country,” says Agriculture Secretary Rod Nilsestuen announcing the state’s participation.

Officials in opposed states say that California’s milk subsidy system forces out-of-state producers who sell milk to California milk processors to do so at a price disadvantage compared to California producers.
