    Noteworthy Introductions

    September 1, 2003
Horizon Organic Holding Corp., Boulder, Colo., introduces the first and only USDA-certified organic infant formula that meets FDA requirements for infant nutrition. Developed by a panel of infant formula experts, the product is made with high-quality certified organic fats, carbohydrates and proteins, plus 27 essential vitamins and minerals, and no antibiotics, hormones and pesticides. Horizon Organic Infant Formula with Iron will roll out in California, Washington and Oregon. It comes in powdered form in two can sizes --13.2 oz and 27.6 oz --and retails for $15.49 and $29.49, respectively.

Westby, Wis.-based Westby _Cooperative Creamery, which turns 100 years old on Oct. 31, 2003, rolls out Roasted Tomato Red Pepper Dip. The naturally cultured, sour cream-based dip is chock full of real chunks of tomatoes and peppers. It comes in 8-oz and 16-oz containers.

Artisan gelato and sorbet manufacturer Ciao Bella Gelato, New York, introduces new pint flavors and packaging for consumers. The new flavors include Blackberry Cabernet Sorbet, Blood Orange Sorbet, Green Tea with White Chocolate Chunks Gelato and Dulce De Leche Gelato. To make its frozen desserts, the company sources fine ingredients from all over the world. For example, the Blood Orange Sorbet uses ruby red oranges that are grown exclusively at the foot of the Mount Etna volcano in Sicily, Italy. The new retail package uses intense color palettes in somewhat unusual combinations to build flavor sensations, the company says.

Drawing heavily on south-of-the-border flavors, ingredients and inspirations, Cabot Creamery Cooperative Inc., Cabot, Vt., rolls out Chipotle Cheddar cheese. This "hot" flavor joins Cabot's other recently introduced unique flavor --Cheddar Cheese with a Taste of Parmesan.
