    Dairy co-op Land O'Lakes to close one cheese plant, expand another in Wisconsin

    A cheddar plant in Kiel will be expanded; an Italian cheese plant in Denmark will close on July 1.

    Land O'Lakes Inc. announced today that it is buying silos, vats and other equipment totaling millions of dollars for its Kiel, Wis., cheese plant. Meanwhile, it will close its Denmark, Wis., plant on July 1.

    The Asian market is served by the Australian plant which ships single-serve cups of plain and flavored yogurts and multiserve containers of plain yogurt.

    Chobani is exporting Greek yogurt to Singapore, Malaysia and Panama. The New Berlin, N.Y.-based dairy processor also has a plant in Idaho and currently sells in Australia, where it has a third manufacturing facility.

    Dairy co-op AMPI reports $1.8 billion in sales in 2013

    Cheese sales increased 7% while butter sales rose 3%.

    Associated Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI) announced Monday that the dairy marketing cooperative recorded sales of $1.8 billion and earnings of $7.5 million in 2013. American-style cheese production totaled 400 million pounds in 2013.

    Higher dairy inputs sting General Mills Q3 results; Yoplait Greek boosts sales through 9 months

    Net sales for the third quarter of fiscal 2014 totaled $4.38 billion, down 1% from year-ago levels.

    For the nine months of the company’s fiscal year, net sales have increased 2% to $13.63 billion. Yoplait Greek yogurt was cited as one of the retail products contributing to year-to-date net sales growth. Others include Fiber One protein bars, Nature Valley oatmeal squares and Totino's frozen pizza and snacks.

    Mexico's Grupo Lala said sales increased 7% to $3.2 billion. The dairy processor attributed the growth mainly to a higher value-added product mix, to non-organic growth as a result of new products and brands in the portfolio, to volume growth and to the company´s price increase strategy.

    Sales of dairy ingredients, butter set record at Land O'Lakes

    Land O'Lakes Inc., Arden Hills, Minn., said that its Dairy Foods business segment in 2013 generated record pretax earnings of $75 million on sales of $4.5 billion, up 8% from 2012. The results were driven by improved margins on milk powders and butter in Global Dairy Ingredients along with records in sales volume and earnings in the Retail Foods and Foodservice businesses.
