For Monin Gourmet Flavorings, TricorBraun challenged the conventional answers for eliminating heat-related bottle distortion and created a mold with horizontal ribs, hidden at top and bottom of the label panel area, in order to protect the product’s signature appearance.

The solution for distortion in hot-filled PET bottles is frequently a container with thicker walls or vertical ribs. However, for Monin Gourmet Flavorings of Clearwater, Fla., TricorBraun challenged the conventional answers for eliminating heat-related bottle distortion and created a mold with horizontal ribs, hidden at top and bottom of the label panel area, in order to protect the product’s signature appearance.

Monin typically hot filled bottles of flavored syrups at 155-160°F, so they unsuccessfully used a heavier bottle to overcome heat-related distortion. The loss of product and occasional poor shelf appearance kept Monin searching for the perfect solution.

To eliminate the warp, Monin originally was told it needed vertical support ribs, similar to those found in water bottles. However, vertical ribs would interfere with the label panel and compromise the product’s signature appearance.

TricorBraun’s solution of adding support rings above and below the label panel preserved the one-liter PET bottle’s unique appearance. A 28mm TE neck finish is employed on the container.
