LeMARS, Iowa-Mike Wells has assumed the position of CEO at Wells Dairy Inc., and Gary Wells has stepped down to join the board of directors.  Doug Wells, co-president; and Greg Wells, senior v.p. of operations, have also stepped down from their positions and any day-to-day responsibilities. The changes were announced by the privately held company on Nov. 14.

“This decision was made with full support of the family to provide clear focus to critical business decisions and ensuring our organization can move quickly and efficiently to maximize business opportunities and provide clear and consistent communication across the company,” stated Mike Wells.

Gary, Doug and Greg Wells will continue to support executive leadership on a consultant basis and the Wells family will continue its representation on the company’s board of directors.

“This is a very positive thing,” company spokesman Dave Smetter told the Associated Press. “The family is all behind this decision. They recognize as a family-owned company, having multiple family members in management can cause some communication breakdown.”

In making the announcement, the Wells’ family emphasized their commitment to the long-term viability of the company and its progress toward achieving the goal of becoming a Top 3 national brand in ice cream and frozen novelties.
