Chr. Hansen has signed an agreement with Jarrow Formulas, Los Angeles, for the distribution of Urex-cap-5 to health food stores in the United States. Urex-cap-5 is a unique probiotic concept for women's health, and is the only oral probiotic concept clinically documented to restore and maintain a healthy vaginal flora and reduce the risk of urogenital infections. Jarrow will market the Urex concept under its brand name Fem-Dophilus™. The Urex concept is based on the world's most documented probiotic strains for women's health, Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1™ and Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14™. Cargill says the European Commission has approved its acquisition of Degussa's food ingredients operations. As this is the final stage of regulatory approval, Cargill and Degussa can now proceed with the necessary financial and legal transfers in order to complete the acquisition. Degussa's food ingredients operations are comprised of texturant and flavoring capabilities and will significantly strengthen Cargill's portfolio of texturant ingredients and systems, emulsifiers, flavoring and health promoting ingredients. It will accelerate the company's focus on creating value and growth for its customers.
The Blommer Chocolate Co., Chicago, recently purchased an 85,000 sq ft chocolate manufacturing facility in Campbellford, Ontario from World's Finest Chocolate. The acquisition continues Blommer's growth as the largest processor of cocoa beans and chocolate-related products in North America. Operation of the facility is expected to commence the first week of April.
"We are excited about the purchase as it provides a great platform for our continued growth in the North American market," said Rick Blommer, v.p. of operations, on behalf of the Blommer family that has owned and operated the company since 1939.
