One of the most highly regulated food industries in the United States, dairy must comply with regulations issued by multiple federal agencies including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Commerce, among other state and local regulatory bodies. 

 

Despite political calls to roll back the size of government and cut down on federal regulations, it seems as though new or modified regulations are being proposed or implemented every day. While the intent of these new rules may be to make food safer, people healthier or the environment cleaner, new regulations also add to the already burdensome regulatory environment for the industry.

 

Since most dairy industry professionals only come face-to-face with regulators when an inspector knocks on their door, the Regulatory RoundUP provides the opportunity for dairy professionals to hear first-hand from the decision-makers and the regulation officials who have direct responsibility for the rules that affect dairy plants, products and personnel.
