On May 25, the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) and National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) applauded the U.S. government’s announcement that it would once again initiate consultations, the first step in a formal dispute settlement case, over Canada’s continued manipulation of dairy tariff rate quotas (TRQs) in violation of Canada’s commitments under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
USDEC, NMPF said they welcome the launch and the opportunity it offers to strengthen ties with key trading partners across the Asia-Pacific region.

Today in Tokyo, President Biden launched the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) with a dozen initial partners: Australia, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) and The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) said they joined the U.S. House of Representatives’ bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus in a roundtable on March 17 to discuss additional steps Congress could take to address the ongoing export supply chain crisis facing American exports, including dairy.
The program was launched in partnership with the Port of Oakland and will set up a new “pop-up” site at the port dedicated to easing the loading of empty containers with agricultural exports.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced a new program to help address the export side of the supply chain crisis. The initiative was addressed at a webinar featuring agriculture industry and policy leaders hosted by the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) and the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC).
The USMCA panel — the first dispute panel to be established under the agreement — found elements of Canada’s TRQ administration to be in breach of commitments under the agreement.

If passed by the Senate and signed into law, the legislation would help alleviate delays and disruptions at U.S. ports.
