Engage with industry leaders, professionals at IDDBA 19

The event is slated for June 2-4 in Orlando.

Attendees to the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association’s (IDDBA) IDDBA 19 will have the opportunity to grow personally and professionally by attending the show’s General Session presentations. The event will be held June 2-4 at the Orlando Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., Madison, Wis.-based IDDBA said.

A sampling of  the speakers and their sessions include:

Kevin Ryan, CEO and founder, Malachite Strategy & Research, “The ‘New Retail’ Reality.” Malachite Strategy and Research is a consumer-packaged-goods- and foodservice-focused insights and innovation agency. Ryan previously served as the senior brand strategist of Amazon.com, IDDBA noted, overseeing the corporate brand and advertising strategies for the Prime, Echo and several retail brands. Prior to working for Amazon, he was a director of strategy and innovation at General Mills.

Ryan’s experiences include early exploration, brand innovation and go-to-market strategies for the launch of the Yoplait brand in Greater China, redesigning the retail and in-shop experience for Häagen-Dazs across Europe and Asia, and leading U.S. new product development innovation efforts on the Pillsbury, Cheerios and Annie’s brands. He is an expert in the front end of innovation, specializing in deep ethnography, strategic mapping, consumer Jobs development, design thinking and new product ideation, IDDBA said. Ryan will deliver an insights-filled look at how dairy, deli, and bakery will be impacted by the evolving face of “new retail.”

Christina Tosi, CEO and founder, Milk Bar, “Inside the Mind of a Sugar Genius.” Milk Bar was called “one of the most exciting bakeries in the country” by Bon Appétit magazine. Tosi founded the dessert programs at Momofuku and went on to build a culinary empire of her own.

Since opening Milk Bar’s doors in 2008, The New York Times has described her as a “border crossing pastry chef,” IDDBA noted. The culinary trendsetter and sugar genius is a two-time James Beard award winner, a Crain’s New York 40 under 40 honoree and the author of two highly acclaimed cookbooks. Attendees will learn how to think outside of the box when it comes to desserts with Christina Tosi.

Seth Godin, former vice president of Yahoo! and a best-selling author, “You Can’t Be Seen Until You Learn To See.” The author of 18 books that have been best-sellers around the world, Godin focuses on everything from effective marketing and leadership to the spread of ideas and changing everything, IDDBA said. He has been able to motivate and inspire countless people around the world.

His books include Linchpin, Tribes, The Dip, Purple Cow, and What To Do When It’s Your Turn (And It’s Always Your Turn). Though renowned for his writing and speaking, Godin also founded two companies, Squidoo and Yoyodyne (acquired by Yahoo!), IDDBA said. In 2013, he was one of just three professionals inducted into the Direct Marketing Hall of Fame. And in May 2018, he was inducted into the Marketing Hall of Fame as well. Godin will share his expertise in marketing, leadership and changing everything to help attendees level up.

Barb Stuckey, president and chief innovation officer, Mattson, “10 Macro Trends Driving Innovation in the Food & Beverage Industry.” Stuckey is known as a taste, food trend, innovation, consumer insights and product development expert. In her innovation projects, she is required to taste food and has honed her tasting skills and ability to help others make food taste better. In 2012, her book Taste What You’re Missing was published.

Stuckey was instrumental in helping The San Francisco Cooking School integrate the science of taste into its curriculum; she now teaches the Fundamentals of Taste to each entering class. She also holds a seat on the advisory board of the Plant Based Foods Association. Stuckey will discuss what consumers are looking for in the food industry when it comes to flavor, trends, and innovation.
