Ecologic Brands has new stock molded-fiber bottles

    February 24, 2012

    By Ecologic Brands

Eco bottleEcologic Brands, creator of the first molded fiber bottle made from recycled cardboard, unveiled its eco.bottle line of stock molded fiber bottles at Pack Expo in Las Vegas in September  2011. Now brands can quickly and easily adopt the ecologic solution, choosing between a 32-ounce, 50-ounce, and a 64-ounce size bottle to house liquids or dry food-grade products.

"We are thrilled with our successful partnership with Seventh Generation, and are now ready to re-create these results for other brands who want to offer their consumers more sustainable packaging choices."

With the new eco.bottle line, brands eager to improve their green credentials with a visibly different, sustainable package, can now do so with Ecologic Brands' turn-key stock molded fiber bottles. The new eco.bottle line complements Ecologic Brands' custom bottle offerings.

Ecologic Brands' eco.bottles are comprised of two parts: a sturdy molded fiber shell made from recycled cardboard and newspapers, and a thin interior plastic pouch that uses up to 70% less plastic when compared to rigid plastic HDPE bottles. The plastic pouch and spout are made from #4 Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastic, and are BPA-free. When finished with the product inside, consumers simply pop open the exterior shell and recycle or compost it. The thin #4 plastic pouch is recyclable with plastic grocery bags at retailer drop off bins, or vastly reduces landfill waste if thrown away.

The reduction of plastic, coupled with the company's commitment to leveraging the recycling stream, helped Ecologic Brands win the 2011 Greener Package Award for Environmental Impact. When compared to shipping empty rigid plastic bottles, the ecologic solution offers greater carbon savings because the outer shells tightly nest and can be transported flat. One truckload of Ecologic Brands' packaging material is equivalent to shipping up to nine truckloads of empty rigid plastic bottles.

The Ecologic bottle debuted in March 2011, with Seventh Generation's new 4X detergent, allowing the company to "clean-up" on store shelves: the new laundry detergent is now one of the 10 best-selling detergents in the Natural grocery channel, in a market crowded with more than 150 different choices.

Company Founder and CEO Julie Corbett says, "We are thrilled with our successful partnership with Seventh Generation, and are now ready to re-create these results for other brands who want to offer their consumers more sustainable packaging choices."
