An economic analysis published on June 18 shows the serious impact of the European Union’s (EU) skim milk powder (SMP) intervention program on the U.S. dairy industry — especially to U.S. farm-gate milk prices — in the years 2016-2019, according to the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF).
The dairy organizations urge U.S. government to insist on good faith implementation of USMCA.

The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) and National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) sharply criticized Canada’s allocation of its tariff-rate quotas (TRQ) under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), released on June 15.
Most tariffs on dairy products and ingredients will decrease by 50% or more.

Vietnam signed a decree unilaterally lowering tariffs on key dairy products and ingredients, including skim milk powder, whole milk powder, cheese, milk albumin and protein isolate.
The House is expected vote on the legislative package on May 15.

As the European Union (EU) is poised to begin government-financed intervention purchases of skim milk powder (SMP) and butter, dairy farmers and processors in key dairy-producing countries around the world are calling on the EU to avoid the market-distorting practices that have significantly harmed them and the broader global dairy market in the past.
The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF), both based in Arlington, Va., said they applaud the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) for firmly rebuking the European Union’s (EU) protectionist dairy trade policies in its annual U.S. Special 301 Report, released on April 29.
The organizations sent a letter to President Trump on April 10.
