Healthy Weight With Citrus?
Facing decreased sales brought on by the popularity of low-carb diets, Florida's Citrus Department is launching a marketing campaign aimed at bringing consumers back to orange and grapefruit juices. While the diets urge people to avoid the juices because of high levels of fructose, the grapefruit industry is highlighting a recent study by Scripps Institute of San Diego that found grapefruit promotes weight loss.
Franchise Friendly
Friendly's Ice Cream Corp. switched to a franchise-only strategy in Florida last month with the sale of 10 restaurants in the Orlando area. In a deal worth $3.15 million, Central Florida Restaurants LLC, Sarasota, Fla., acquired the restaurants from the Massachusetts-based parent company and a development deal to open 25 more during the next 11 years.
Urban Wal-Mart
Drug Store News reports that Wal-Mart opened its first urban Supercenter in Tampa, Fla. last month. The store's experimental design boasts pharmacy and health and beauty services at the front of the store and a two-lane, drive-through pharmacy.
