Prison Milk
Facilities Design Inc., has been hired by the Virginia Department of Corrections to manage and engineer a $5 million conversion of a prison laundry at Powhatan state prison into a milk processing plant.

Arla Canada
The Canadian subsidiary of Danish dairy giant Arla Foods has acquired National Cheese Co., a specialty cheese business in Ontario. National Cheese was founded as a family-owned specialty cheese business in 1960.

Actimel in Russia
France's Danone Group plans to begin making its probiotic Actimel in Russia. It is investing 15 million Euros in a new Actimel production line, which will be delivered this month to the group's plant outside Moscow in Chekhov.

Florida Cows
A recent report indicates that more than 300,000 gals of Florida milk had to be dumped due to four hurricanes that struck the state this year. When combined with the effects on herds and herd production, these factors were still causing milk to be pulled in November.

Chief of Euphoria
Ben & Jerry's has appointed Walt Freese to its top executive position, what it calls "chief euphoria officer." Freese, comes from the marketing arena and is replacing Yves Couette, who has become senior vice president for Unilever's Beverages Category.
