New at Dreyer's
Along with some new products hitting the store shelves this month, Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream has a new leader in its logistics department. Tony Sarsam, 44, joins Dreyer's as ex. v.p. of operations and supply chain, coming from PepsiCo's Frito-Lay business. Sarsam, who joined Frito-Lay twenty years ago as a plant engineer, will lead Dreyer's Operations group and its Supply Chain group coordinating efforts of its seven U.S. manufacturing facilities.
Valio Building In Russia
Finland's Valio Ltd. is building a milk plant in Leningrad Oblast, Russia and hopes to have production by next year. The facility is being built in conjunction with Russia's Gatchinsky Milk Plant, which offered one of its existing sites for the new plant.
Arla Buys In Wisconsin
The Swedish-Danish dairy group Arla Foods has agreed to acquire its U.S. manufacturing partner White Clover Dairy. White Clover, based in Wisconsin, has produced cheeses for Arla Foods since 1998 under a license deal.
Carvel Maps It
Carvel Ice Cream has found a way to connect with expatriate East Coasters who may still be brand loyal to Carvel. The 70-year old company is using "location intelligence" software to find sites for new Carvel franchises that are near to pockets of former New Yorkers and other Atlantic Coast transplants.
