Yoplait blended Greek yogurt and other new food items contributed to net sales growth of General Mills in the first half of its fiscal year, the food giant reported today.
Sales of Greek yogurt have increased 32% year-to-date and are projected to grow even higher in 2014, according to the company.

Greek yogurt processor Chobani Inc., New Berlin, N.Y., said today that its Twin Falls, Idaho, facility has reached optimal production capability. It termed it "a significant milestone achieved in less than a year."
Sokollek will be responsible for all operational aspects at Chobani including manufacturing, engineering, product supply, materials management, purchasing, safety, security, environmental health and sustainability.

Yoplait yogurt products contributed to a first-quarter sales increase at Minneapolis-based General Mills. Net sales rose 8% to $4.37 billion in the quarter ended Aug. 25, with new businesses contributing 5 percentage points of the growth, according to the company.
Rowe said union members are currently paying 5% of health care costs. Darigold has assured the union that they would not pay more than 10%.

Darigold Inc., Seattle, disputed the assertion made by the Teamsters today that it walked out of federal mediation talks late Monday night. Darigold General Counsel and Senior Vice President Steven Rowe told Dairy Foods that some members of the dairy cooperative's team did leave the meeting but continued to participate by telephone after they arrived home. Rowe said the bargaining session lasted from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Nestle, Danone and Lactalis remain on the top of the list.

“The top five companies remain unchanged in their position on the list, yet there are now two Chinese companies in the rank of the largest 15 companies, whereas there were none in the top 20 until 2008,” said Rabobank analyst Tim Hunt. “In contrast, the lack of a U.S.-based global consolidator means that the rankings of U.S. companies has declined.”
