Lowell International Foods, Franklin Park, Ill., recently introduced European Classic Yogurts, which joins the company’s European Style Kefir. Both of these fermented dairy products are made with active live cultures, includingBifidobacterium bifidum andLactobacillus casei. These products are available to specialty and mainstream retailers across the United States. The initial roll out was in neighborhood Polish and other ethnic grocery chains in the Chicago region.

The plain-flavored whole milk kefir carries the descriptor of probiotic and claims “fortifies immunity” and “improves digestive health.” The kefirs come in 14.5-ounce cups with peel-back foil lids. An 8-ounce serving contains 210 calories and 4.5 grams fat.

The yogurts, available in both non-fat and whole milk formulations, are made using an exclusive European recipe that took two years to develop, according to the company. The yogurts combine fruits sourced in Europe with farm-fresh milk from Wisconsin. The eight fruit flavors include black currant, blueberry, cherry, peach, plum, strawberry, raspberry and vanilla. The company is also introducing a multi-grain version in six fruit flavors - apple/pear, apricot, peach, prune, raspberry and strawberry.
