Krohne supplies Chobani plant with process measurement equipment

KROHNE OPTIFLUX6300KROHNE Inc. announced that it supplied a variety of process measurement equipment for a state-of-the-art Chobani yogurt plant in Twin Falls, Idaho, including level switches, level sensors, mass meters, magnetic flow meters, temperature sensors, transmitters, and conductivity sensors. The product sale was a global effort, with KROHNE’s U.S. and French engineers working closely to ensure the best products were installed at the new facility, one of the biggest yogurt plants in the world.

The New York-based Greek yogurt maker’s new Idaho facility opened to much fanfare, with appearances from company executives, Idaho political leaders, Olympic athletes and a marching band.

At the heart of the plant is KROHNE’s new OPTIFLUX 6300 Grade A pasteurized milk ordinance (PMO) meter, which shortens the holding time for milk in the pasteurization loop, improving output and increasing efficiency. The OPTIFLUX 6300 is approved for use in pasteurization loops in accordance with FDA requirements. Also supplied was the OPTIFLUX 6100 electromagnetic flow sensor, specifically designed to stay clean and sterile in compliance with the most stringent demands of the food and beverage industry. With no crevices, gaps or blind spots, the flow sensor provides full clean in place/sanitize in place features.

Other products installed in the new plant include the OPTIMASS 7300 mass flowmeter, which has a single straight measuring tube and is ideal for viscous or shear-sensitive products; the BM 500 level gauge; and the ACM 500 inductive conductivity sensor, which offers a stainless steel connecting head and a small and compact design that allows installation in pipelines sized DN 40 and higher.
