Deacom Inc. has announced that California Custom Fruits & Flavors Inc., a manufacturer of custom formulated processed fruits, flavors and bases, will implement the Deacom Integrated Accounting and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software System to support the company’s growth strategy.

For more than 20 years, Irwindale, Calif.-based California Custom Fruits & Flavors has been supplying ingredients to national food brands throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Asia and Central America for products such as yogurt, ice cream, cereal bars, cookies, sodas and sports drinks. The privately owned business was using customized software on a UNIX platform to manage its business prior to selecting food processing software from Deacom.

“Keeping our systems running smoothly required a significant investment of time, and our support was dependent on a single programmer,” says Jason Kim-Rastello, IT manager for California Custom Fruits & Flavors.

The company selected the Deacom ERP Software System because it is specifically designed to handle all the requirements of a food and beverage ingredient manufacturer – including formulation, sales, purchasing, production, QC/QA, Material Requirements Planning (MRP), inventory control, lot tracking, reporting, and accounting – in a single system that does not require customization.

“We were impressed with Deacom’s approach,” Kim-Rastello says. “Rather than attempting to connect separate systems to handle our business processes, Deacom integrates everything in one system.”

With a single data source, California Custom Fruits & Flavors will improve its data accuracy and have the ability to drill down through summary reports to view transactional details.

The ERP manufacturing software also will provide a visual, color-coded representation of raw material demands and requirements through its built-in MRP functionality, allowing the company to easily coordinate purchasing and production activities. Additionally, the Deacom Shop Floor Data Collection System will allow the manufacturer to bar code lots and use hand-held scanners to easily trace materials throughout its three warehouse locations. In total, the company expects Deacom’s inventory management functionality will help it significantly increase its inventory turns.

Also attractive to California Custom Fruits & Flavors was Deacom’s “perfect balance of being a big fish in a pond that is just the right size,” Kim-Rastello says. “We have access to everyone at Deacom from the top down. That’s just not something you can count on with large-scale vendors.”
